Colombia produces one of the world's most balanced coffees, which is very popular on every continent for its smooth, delicate taste. The country's excellent geographical features allow the coffee to be harvested all year round, thus the supply is continuous. This attribute and the washed processing method characteristic of the country make Colombia the largest producer of washed Arabica in the world. The Federación Nacional de Cafeteros organization operating in the country is doing exemplary work at a global level. It helps farmers both with money and developments (schools, road constructions, etc.), and organizes trade. Until recently they exported coffee only in four quality grades (Supremo, Excelsa, Extra, and Pasilla), in addition to which specialty coffees of small growing regions have also appeared by now.
We chose this coffee produced in the Huila district, the south of Colombia, for its reliable quality and rich flavour. The Supremo quality grade indicates larger coffee beans and therefore the highest quality that comes from more modern plantations producing coffees of steady quality. The screen size 17/18 shows that these are very large, robust coffee beans with moderately acidic citrus fragrance, and harmonious taste with a blachberry overtone.
