Several indigenous species of coffee plants growing wild up to this day occur in Ethiopia, thus the coffees originating in there belong among the world’s most unusual coffees. Coffees marketed under the name Limu originate basically from two regions, from the area of Limu Kosa and Limu Seka, which are located north of Jimma, the traditional centre of Ethiopia's coffee industry. However  the name Limu doesn’t refer merely to the location, it also markes that it have been processed washed, while the unwashed coffees have normally been offered under the Jimma or “Djmmah” category.

Coffees are growen in smalldholder farms which are usually smaller than 3 hectars. Once the coffee berries turn bright red on the trees, farmers must pick them within two days or they will dry. Once plucked, the farmers have 12 hours to get the ripened cherries to a pulpery, or coffee washing station, where they are soaked in water for 72 hours and then dried in the sun for six days. The cleaned beans are bagged and trucked to Addis Ababa for sale in the daily coffee auction. The Ethiopian Government has put a lot of emphasis on the quality of the coffee and has developed a very strict classification system, within which the category 1 (grade 1), marking our coffee, represents the highest quality.

The Ethipian Limu coffee is renowned for its good cup, sweet, spicy/winey flavour and balanced body and is therefore sought by many roasters, especially in Europe and United States. It is one of the premium gourmet coffees worldwide!
