Costa Rica is rightly famous for its high-quality coffees. Coffees produced in the Tarrazu region, the country’s best area of cultivation, are ranked among the world's best coffees. Arabica has been grown there since 1729, and several varietals occur on the island, such as the Caturra, Catuai, Villa Sarchi, and Villaslobos. High-quality Arabica coffee bulks large in the economy of the country. Consequently, in order to protect Arabica, the growing of Robusta has been banned on the island in the meantime.
International cupper have recognized San Rafael RZ Tarrazu as the best coffee of the Tarrazu region. This excellent coffee in our offer comes from the sectors San in the Tarrazu region where the plantations are located on 1200-1900 m high elevations. The term SHB - Strictly Hard Bean –indicates that the coffee was grown above 1,400 m, which is at the same time a quality indicator, since at such a high altitude the seeds grow more slowly, and therefore become harder and denser.
This cup exemplifies a true Tarrazu coffee with its deep aroma, vibrant and lemony acidity and a smooth finish. Every coffee lover must try it once.
Due to its acidity, it is mainly recommended for filter coffees with medium roasting.
